After the Mind the Gap! campaign, we know that not only is there a large wealth gap in our country, but that this gap continues to grow.
Why does this matter? Because this concentration of wealth traps people in poverty, hurts the middle class, and diminishes many measures of our nation’s well-being. It also results in a political power gap that shapes the policies and laws of our government.
Now it's time to Mend the Gap! This curriculum offers insight into policy solutions that can bring us closer together. Mend the Gap! addresses the wealth gap in the United States by examining four specific areas of federal policy: Tax Policy, Asset Building,Housing, and Labor.
Use these resources to teach yourself something new about the ways we can begin to mend the growing gap in our society. In each presentation, you’ll hear from experts, explore history and statistics, and imagine a new way forward. See if you can pass the short quiz at the end of the lesson (and earn extra credit by sending the lesson to a friend)!
And if you still want to learn more about the wealth gap and why it matters, we invite you to explore all of our Mind the Gap! resources.
It is a well-known fact that current levels of
production are sufficient, yet millions of people are still suffering and dying
of starvation. This, dear friends is truly scandalous. A way has to be found to
enable everyone to benefit from the fruits of the earth, and not simply to
close the gap between the affluent and those who must be satisfied with the
crumbs falling from the table, but above all to satisfy the demands of justice,
fairness and respect for every human being.
