Fact Sheet: The Food System and the Wealth Gap

Jul 21, 2011 | By Page May

The Farm Bill’s food basket programs such as SNAP, WIC, and Child Nutrition have obvious connections to the wealth gap. The other half of the Farm Bill- dealing directly with farms and agriculture- may be less clearly relevant to the Mind the Gap! conversation.

This fact sheet focuses on the relationship between food and the wealth gap, from field to fork. It highlights not only the disparity among farmers, but also inequality within our food system as a whole: public health, food access, labor, etc. Click here to see the shocking facts we’ve uncovered in our food system.

In case you missed it, we’ve added a new resource of recommended videos and articles. You can check these out to learn more about the food system. The featured publications are great for an introduction to food systems as well as a deeper analysis! Click here to see our recommendations.
